5 Ways to make your closet more functional

Here are 5 simple ways to make your closet more streamlined, organized, and functional.

  1. Accentuate your Accessories

Hanging a pegboard is a great way to organize necklaces and belts so that you can see what you have at a glance.  Plus, you will fill empty wall space with usable storage.  Add a bright coat of spray paint to transform a boring board into a statement piece.

  1. Show off your Shoes

Have you ever found a pair of shoes at the bottom of your closet that you had completely forgotten about?  Put your shoes on display using a slanted platform or a hanging shoe shelf so you can easily see what you have.  You can also invest in clear shoeboxes and tape a picture to the outside so you can see what’s inside.

  1. Clear out Unused Clothing

If it has been more than a year since you wore an article of clothing, consider if it’s time to ditch.  If it’s torn or stained beyond repair feel free to toss, but don’t chuck anything that someone might be able to use.  You can sell items for a little cash or donate clothes to a worthy charity.

  1. Use the Space Wisely

If you have a walk-in closet, make sure you are utilizing every inch of usable space.  Add a mirror to turn your closet into a dressing area.  If you have space, use an over-the-door rack to add storage for smaller items.

  1. Clean it up

As you organize and revamp your closet, wipe down all shelves and baseboards.  A little cleaning will finish off your closet facelift.
